Sparrow Peak’s Sparrow Wood Butcher Blocks are made from an exotic hardwood, Senna Siamea, that features a variety of color from medium to dark brown, to nearly black, with lighter brown contrasting stripes, sometimes with a red or yellow hue. It has a wavy, interlocked grain with a coarse texture. This Sparrow Wood top is a product of nature and will display characteristics that are unique to each piece.
As a very popular, durable and versatile hardwood, this Sparrow Wood countertop comes finished but it can also be customized for your needs. When choosing to customize your top with cuts or machining, be sure to reapply a sealer to the raw wood exposed.
- Appearance & Color: The heartwood is a medium to dark brown, to nearly black, with lighter brown contrasting stripes, sometimes with a red or yellow hue
- Grain & Texture: a wavy, interlocked grain with a coarse texture
- Machinability: Easy to work with both machine and hand tools, has a high cutting resistance and may dull blades more noticeably
- Finishing: When sanded and stained, it produces an excellent smooth finish. This live edge countertop comes finished. If the top is cut the exposed area will need to have a sealer reapplied.
